As a leading local NGO, SOUL is centrally located with a deep and broad knowledge of the Yemeni society and has first-hand experience of the needs of local communities in different areas of intervention. Throughout 25 years of experience, SOUL for Development has remained committed, to raising the quality of life for women, children, and youth; through the successful implementation of humanitarian, development, and advocacy projects, programs, research, and studies.
In addition, SOUL has been internationally recognized for its social-development efforts, most notable of these are:

  • NGO Consultative Status by the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC/2007).

  • Best Program that contributes to Women‘s Economic Empowerment through IT Award (Islamic Bank for Development 2007)

  • Best Practice Certificate Award (Dubai Municipality, UAE and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme/UN-HABITAT/2008); and ―Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work (Sharjah, UAE/2010).

OUR STORY

SOUL for Development was established in February 1997 as a locally based NGO in Yemen to work for the prevention and alleviation of Yemeni children and women suffering in Sana’a and throughout the country of Yemen. 25 years later we have humanitarian, development, and advocacy programs across the country where we play a leading role in promoting equitable and sustainable development, humanitarian response for a better life, and wellbeing of communities and individuals.
